The Collapse of Laos Dam Causes Floods in Cambodia

On July 25th 2018, the Laos dam collapse sends floods into Cambodia which forces fleeing. More than thousands of people in north Cambodia should leave their home underwater. They have been evacuated because the flood is going to dangerous levels.

According to authorities in Stung Treng, province scrambled will as soon as possible get an emergency evacuation of 1,200 families after more than five billion cubic meters of water flooded into the rivers and surrounding when the Xe-Namnoy hydropower dam in Laos which is located on the border with Cambodia broke on Tuesday night. Additionally, this tragedy of the dam collapse has reportedly led to the deaths of 26 people and the death toll is expected to rise. Although the Laos prime minister said on Wednesday, July 25th, 2018 yesterday there was only one person died so far and at least there are more than 6,000 families in the Attepue area, Laos. According, there are at least 3,000 people who are sitting in the roofs and clinging to the treetop in need of rescue and the existence of 131 citizens is still unknown and officially reportedly missing.

In Laos, at least 6,000 displace people stay in shelter in villages in neighboring areas. In addition, Water level was continued to rise into Wednesday, reached as high as 11.5 meters in areas and left homes underwater. Villages along the Sekong River in Cambodia in the same Xepian-Xe Nam Noy river system was gushed by the torrent. Until today, there is official information yet what causes the river system collapse and how badly the damage occurred.
